Introduction to Small Animal Laparoscopy

Course Description

Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive approach to abdomen for organ biopsy, diagnostic techniques, and surgical procedures. The first day of the course includes lectures on instrumentation, basic techniques and procedures to be performed in the laboratory. The second day participants will perform laparoscopy on canine cadavers. 


Participants will learn basic approaches and tissue manipulation. Laparoscopic techniques include tissue biopsy (liver, and pancreas), cholecystocentesis, ovariectomy, cryptorchidectomy, and basic laparoscopic-assisted techniques including, gastropexy, and cystoscopy for bladder stones removal. This course is intended for those having minimal or no experience with laparoscopy. 


The laboratory is limited in size to two people per station.
